If Aviandria Were A Musical–The Trader’s Song

It’s that time again. I have another song from the imagined musical version of Gateway to Aviandria. This one is particularly appropriate for the Halloween season, considering it is sung by some of the creepiest characters in the book. Although Gallis is really the main protagonist in Gateway to Aviandria, the Traders are the ones I probably have the strongest feelings of loathing toward. Perhaps this song will give an idea of why. The book will probably clarify further.

Trader’s Song

Brant (Baldy)

A pretty thing,

her eyes are green

and look, she’s all alone.

Grim

She cost us dear

this lone girl here

and gave us cause to groan.

Brant

But now I have been thinking

and have the strangest inkling

our fortune turned from bad to good

to find her in this lonely wood.

She’s worth more than a scrawny deer

so why not take here while she’s here?

Grim

(Speaking)

Do you really think we could?

Brant

(Speaking)

Not only that; I think we should.

Come along with us now and don’t you give us trouble

Grim

The former life you learned to love has been reduced to rubble

Brant

So kiss the ones you loved goodbye

Grim

To them you are about to die

Both

‘Cuz that’s what you get when you tangle with the Traders.

Brant

You made a big mistake girl, it’s something I will not forget

That little stunt you pulled just now is something that you will regret.

Grim

You’re ours until we make a trade

So give up on those prayers you’ve prayed

Both

‘Cuz that what you get when you tangle with the Traders.

We come, we stay, we go at will

we only live to make a deal.

If we find you have what we want

You better trade that thing you’ve got

For if you don’t it will not stay

We’ll come and take it anyway.

Brant

So now my dear your only hope

is for the strength and wits to cope.

Grim

You’re lucky if you just survive

enough to wish to stay alive.

Brant

‘Cuz that’s what you get…

Grim

Yes, that’s what you get…

Both

‘Cuz that’s what you get when you tangle with the Traders.

Who’s your favorite musical villain?
