Ask The Author–Would You and Your Main Character Get Along?
Happy New Year! I guess it’s a day late for the actual holiday, but the year is still very new, so I think that should still count. Anyhow, hopefully, this will be the year I actually get my book out. It’s been far too long. Anyhow, for the next author question: Would you and your main character get along?
Let’s see. Right now, my main character would still be Ashlynn, since that is still my current work in progress, even if it is mostly done, and I’m just waiting on a few touches before I can get it published. So the answer to that question would be, yes, I think I would get along with her. Probably because we have a lot of similarities as far as common interests. There are also differences. I mean, Ashlynn is a lot more outgoing than I am. She is braver than I am, and she knows what to say better than I ever do. She’s also a bit more impulsive than I am. However, I don’t think those are things that would keep us from getting along. If anything, I think our differences would complement each other more than make it difficult.
Since I have several other projects in various stages of completion, I could probably consider those as well. I think on most of them, I’d get along okay with the main characters. I tend to get along with most people, as long as they aren’t mean or nasty. I mean, I might not be best friends with them or anything, but I don’t think we would really annoy each other. So, yeah, I think I’d at least get along with most of my main characters.
Do you have any main characters in books you’ve read that you think you’d get along with especially well? How about characters you think you’d really clash with?
