Aviandrian-ish Love Poems
First of all, happy Valentine’s Day! I always loved Valentine’s day. As a kid, I thought it was the greatest thing ever to leave valentines on the doorstep of my friend’s houses and ring the doorbell right before running away. Somehow, it was more fun to give the Valentines than get them. They don’t exactly have Valentine’s Day in Aviandria, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t know the meaning of romance. They still have love notes, and since poetry is a big deal in Aviandria, a lot of them are written in verse. Here are a few little “Love Poems” that I have come up with that seem something like what they might have in Aviandria.
Our Love
Rocs fly in the clear blue sky,
Fish swim in the sea,
But the thing that is most beautiful,
Is the love between you and me.
What I’d Do For You
I’d make you a headband of roses,
But you’re more beautiful than they by far,
I’d sing you the perfect lovesong,
But you’d outshine it like the moon outshines a star.
These words are far from adequate,
But every one is true,
Because what I am trying to say is,
I love you.
My Heart
My heart howls like the saddest wolf
Whenever you’re away,
It searches like the homing dove
When far from me you stay.
When you are near it sings out loud,
Like the most joyful lark you’ll hear,
And if you would just hold my hand,
It would leap like a dashing dear.
Yes, yes, I know these are completely corny, but isn’t that what makes a good love poem? I mean, everyone knows the “Roses are red, Violets are blue” poem, and that is about as corny as it gets. So, hopefully, you’ll enjoy these excessively mushy love poems and maybe, just maybe, they’ll inspire you to write some of your own.
What would you include in a love poem?
