Simplified Summer Series–Prompt Response
Once in a while I find a writing prompt I have fun with. I found this one on the Go Teen Writers blog. The idea is, they gave a starting line with fifteen words. The task was to add to that line, only the next sentence has to have fourteen words, then thirteen words. It continues like that with each sentence being one less than the previous one until the last sentence is only one word. It was a fun challenge. I figured I’d share my response.
The rope swing dangled from a tree branch, swinging out over a crystal clear lake. Looking down into those translucent depths felt like looking into an entirely different world. I’d been looking for this place ever since the other portal was destroyed. Who’d have guessed it would be in the middle of a lake? I felt the tingle of anticipation always present around a portal. There was no denying this really had to be it. I took a deep breath and grabbed the rope. I pulled back and paused a brief moment. I felt the rope pulling me forward. Then my feet left the ground. My hands released the rope. I let myself fly. The world changed. All’s well. Home.
What would you have written for this prompt?
