What do they wear in Aviandria?– Aviandrian Fashion: Pt. 3- Formal Clothing
Once again, it is time for a bit of Aviandrian fashion. This will probably be our last post on this topic for now, so if you have enjoyed these posts, I’m sorry. However, if they have bored you out of your mind, don’t give up, because after this you won’t have to worry about it anymore. Today, I’ll quickly go over what is worn for more formal or fancy occasions in Aviandria.
Keep in mind, people who are in government or very prominent positions will dress more formally on a daily basis. They will have even more formal clothing for extra special occasions. (Kind of like wearing a suit and tie to your everyday job, and a tuxedo to a special event.) Most of the other population may have one slightly more formal outfit that they save for special occasions, but these still will not be incredibly formal compared to what one would wear to a royal ball.
Men
Like everything else, men’s formal clothes start with the normal base of a shirt and pants. There isn’t usually very much difference between these. However, the jackets, or more commonly, vests or jerkins (I’ve searched and searched, and I can’t really find an equivalent term that we have in our world for these, so I use those terms because they are the closest, even though they don’t really fit). They are usually made from something like velvet, or a satin-type material if it can be afforded. These tend to have fancy trim, usually in a braid or twist, but sometimes piping. Often they are gold or silver for the very rich, or simply a bright color for those not able to afford the gold or silver. Some will have fine fastenings down the front, but not always. Also, recently, half capes have come into fashion. These can come in a few different styles but always look a bit dashing.
Women
Women’s formal clothing has a multitude of possibilities. Often, the more formal, the more of the underdress is covered. For the most formal occasions, a very light underdress is worn and covered entirely. Other times, there will be slits in the sleeves or skirts that show bits of the underdress, which will often be in a color that compliments the over piece. However, a majority of the underdress is still covered. Just a skirt or top cover would never be considered formal. Women’s dresses will have similar trim to the men’s, but other than that, are usually fairly simple. Aviandiran fashion generally revolves around elegant simplicity. Capes are not commonly worn by women unless it is to make one stand out above the rest. For example, Ashlynn wears one for ceremonial type occasions, like her coronation, or balls/banquets marking something particularly special. Sometimes a bride will wear a cape. If a cape is worn by a woman, it is full length, oftentimes trailing behind her something like a train.
Children
I didn’t draw a picture for this, because children’s formal clothing is not really different than the adult versions. Children usually just dress like adults for very formal things. There aren’t really marked differences except for babies, and perhaps young toddlers, which just dress in the best baby/toddler clothes they have. (For descriptions of these, see Aviandrian Fashion Pt. 2)
