Ask the Author–If you were to write a spin-off about a side character, who would you pick?

March, march, march. Do you ever wonder why it’s called March? It makes me think of marching through the end of winter into spring. I guess that’s just me though because apparently, the real reason is that it was named after the Roman god, Mars. March used to be the first month of the Roman new year. But enough of the random facts. Today, I get to answer the question, If you were to write a spin-off about a side character, who would you pick?

And that is an excellent question. I have to admit, I have, for a while, considered writing some of Alder and Dillyn’s adventures from when they were younger. They have had quite a few, and it would be really fun to write some of them out. There are a few allusions in books that would probably make more sense with some backstory.

I suppose any of Ashlynn’s sky guards could have a story written about them. They would probably all have had interesting adventures as riders. Karynne, especially, could be interesting considering her back story. The third book reveals a few things about her past, but there could be a lot more.

I’ve already written a short story about Captain Downell from the second book, but he has the potential of having more adventures that could be written about as well. After all, he does happen to be a smuggler. (You don’t actually find that out in the book. It does show up in the short story. You can read that here if you want.) That could be kind of fun if it was done right. That could also be a fun way to write a bit more about some of the countries surrounding Aviandria.

Is there a side character in any book you would like a story about?
