If Aviandria Were a Musical–Dreams
Last month I started sharing some song lyrics I wrote a few years ago for whenever Aviandria becomes so big they decide to make a Broadway musical of it. I know that’s about as likely as getting a letter from Hogwarts, but hey, a girl can dream, can’t she? Last week I shared “Alder’s Lament.” If you want to read it, you can find it here. The song this week introduces the main character, Ashlynn, and her best friend Ebony. And, though I mentioned this last week, there are a couple things to keep in mind. Unfortunately, I am not quite awesome enough to write out all the music for the tune that goes with these songs (Yes, they do have a tune. I didn’t just write words. I can hear it all in my head nearly perfectly.) and I can’t perform these by myself. Try as I might, I just can’t split myself into two people and sing two different parts. Therefore, you will just have to read the words. Sigh. Also, though there aren’t any huge spoilers in these songs, so it is safe to read them whether you have read the book or not, they might make more sense if you know the story. If you haven’t read it and would like to, it can be purchased here. So, without further ado, I give you, “Dreams”!
Dreams
Ashlynn
Dreams are peculiar
They come in the night
then fade with the light,
but the essence remains.
They only reflect your own thoughts
When your mind is on its time off
That’s what the textbooks all say
so don’t let your worry stay.
Dreams,
These are just only dreams
So don’t worry about them.
We’ll talk later about them.
These strange dreams.
Ebony
I know dreams are strange
And they often mean nothing
but sometimes there’s something
that you just can’t ignore.
This is more than a thought
that my mind just made up
I can’t help but feel
that this dream is so real.
Dreams,
These are more than just dreams
and I worry about them.
And Just can’t forget them.
These strange dreams.
Ebony
My dreams are so vivid
Ashlynn
And mine are bizarre
the few times I even recall what they are.
Ebony
Sometimes I forget dreams;
ignore them at will
But this time I just cannot shake what I feel.
Ashlynn
Well, we’ll think of something;
We’ll figure this out.
We’ll discover what these dreams are really about.
Ebony and Ashlynn together
This intangible riddle
won’t give us release.
And only by solving it will we find peace.
(Parts sang at the same time by Ebony and Ashlynn)
Ebony
Dreams,
These are more than just dreams
and I worry about them.
And Just can’t forget them.
These strange dreams.
Ashlynn
Dreams,
These are just only dreams
So don’t worry about them.
We’ll talk later about them.
These strange dreams.
